Danish Modern
(products from Maslo Jewelry and Dot & Bo)
Not only has Ms. Wearstler been my favorite interior designer for forever, ever since she began making clothing and accessories, she’s been one of my top fashion designers as well. Her jewelry is special because each piece is like a miniature diorama of her specific style- Hollywood Regency with a dash of deco, and overtones of modern expressionism and surrealism. It’s like an art history class in a necklace. Here are my favorites of the current crop: lots of yummy black and white with cobalt blue. I call the look “Graphic Harlequin”.
For today’s Home post, I wanted another shopping spree (since I’m broke, might as well have the fake kind). I wanted to check out Ferm Living, as I’ve seen it all over the web. I love the clean Danish design, but I also love the fun colors, the “right now” colors of poppy pastels and rich mustard yellow. I also love the contrast of all the black and white pieces. The graphic elements also play to my mid-century aesthetic. Here is what I “bought” on my spree: (all images from Ferm Living website)
This outfit started with this Stella McCartney sweater. I then had to decide how I was going to spin it. Punk was obvious (though it’s one of my least favorite looks). I also thought prep translated well with the plaid. Parisian was an element that happened upon me with the addition of the cuff bracelet (Paris skyline), then the earrings. What could be better than adding a little Chanel to the mix?
Got the inspiration for this one from a paisley shirt worn by our intern at work. Thought it was perfect for fall, especially in a burgundy color scheme. Love the rustic look of the hipster also, so added some of that element as well. Also can’t help but picture Central Park when I think of autumn. Such a great place to experience the season.
Now that I’m limiting my fashion buys (since I just don’t have any more room in my closet or funds in my wallet), I’m being choosier about my picks. I was thinking about the new pants this fall season and came across these fantastic leggings in the Vickie’s Secret catalog. I’ve always been amazed at the clothing they sell- because I wouldn’t have thought a lingerie purveyor would have more style than a sexy maid costume. Anyway, these are equestrian style leggings in a fab windowpane plaid fabric. With the leather patches, they’re like a badass version of riding pants. (photo from victoriassecret.com)
